A taste of French sophistication in Mexico.

Posted Jun 9, 2011

Take one affluent suburb, a dash of France’s beloved Macarons and a touch of Mexican Design et voila… or is that “y listo”?

The famous French pastries are the speciality of  San Pedro’s prestigious patisserie Theurel & Thomas, a Latin American mixture of deisgn and delicate dining heaven. They are the first masion to specialise in these addictive desserts in Mexico, which has already gained them a long list of devotees, and they are also pretty nifty with their presentation skills.

Macarons have never looked so good and get all the attention like a red carpet beauty for they provide the only colour in the room. The interior’s primary colour is white and focuses all eyes on the treats. The only other splash of colour found in here are the two thin lines of colour that decorate the stark but imposingly elegant packaging.

Anagrama Studio have perfected everything that Theurel & Thomas offer their clients with design and branding to rival most. The studio paid attention to all the details from the porcelain pieces down to the typography, which happens to be Didot, a French type to present the brand with sophistication.

I never thought that Macarons required a face-lift quite like this but creating this sense of exclusivity makes the consumption of these soft, almondy miracles ever more worth while. Theurel & Thomas’ Macaron palace is not only a place of food heaven but also a design lover’s paradise, which is why I found it difficult to categorize it. Food? or Artists? I have settled for food. Right, how much for mail order? All this typing has worked me up an appetite.
