NY brunch gets a makeover

Posted Jun 15, 2009

Bar Artisanal is a new TriBeCa bistro and bar and dressed down version of the acclaimed Artisanal Fromagerie, Bistro & Wine Bar. Using only artisanal, and organic products, Swide licks their plates clean.

Here at Swide we believe it's better to do brunch in style. Despite the crisis talk - we're firm believers in savouring at least one fabulous meal during the day. As such, Chef-Proprietor Terrance Brennan’s first venture downtown is currently on our speed-dial.

Starting with the cocktail list (for what else is brunch for but an excuse to start drinking early?) Bar Artisanal features inventive cocktails, which are cleverly created to pair well with cheese. In addition to the hard stuff, there's also a refreshingly accessible wine list that echoes the ambience of a French bistro/bar.

Sticking with the French inspiration - the bars piece de resistance is the Bar du Fromage et Charcuterie serving a selection of artisanal cheeses and charcuterie, whilst a communal table in the bar encourages you to dip in and out as the previous evening's excesses subside.

A wood-fired oven turns out Pissaladieres (French-style pizzas) with creative toppings such as sheep’s milk ricotta, fava bean pesto and speck, and its French-inspired menu features dishes such as cod, chorizo, fingerling potatoes, and cockles, stuffed skate with leeks and daube sauce and grilled lamb chops, parmesan polenta and bagna cauda, and as well as very importantly, a Menu du Burgers which includes lamb burgers on olive rolls with goat cheese filling.

Designed by Albert Angel & Elle Kunnos, the space features birdcage chandeliers, black and white tiled floors, wrought-iron latticework and saloon style swirling ceiling fans.
