Da Silvano has a bambina: Scuderia opens in NY

Posted Mar 19, 2009

With the preponderance of new NYC restaurants popping up with insufferably twee monikers like Sweetie Pie and Buttermilk Channel (wha???) - we're thrilled that Scuderia’s name is actually something of a nod to the Ferrari racing team.

At last night’s intimate little press dinner, hosted by PR enchantress Nina Lora and restaurant partners Leyla Marchetto and Fabrizio Sotti, it was clear that NYC's Scuderia is less about fast cars than about slow dining.

The charming Ms. Marchetto is the daughter of Silvano, he of the eponymous, mythical media and celebrity magnet across the street; and her next gen, nouveau trattoria seems to already be matching pop’s place for both energy and congeniality—only here, the walls are plastered with old rock and jazz album covers.

Culinary hits for the evening were the Scuderia pizza with blue cheese and prosciutto (if you had to choose a last meal seriously, this is it), as well as the rather artfully conceived deconstructed tiramisu (avant dessert?), a reminder that all that downtown high-concepting is not so easily shaken. Seriously magnifico.
