reSTART: America's detox centre for the internet addicted
It's cold turkey for the internet addicted - for $14,000, up to six people at a time can spend 45 days giving up their love of WIFI and the world wide web. reSTART residents are given counselling and psychotherapy, as well as encouraged to bond as a group in activities such as household chores, walks in the grounds and exercising.

The centre, in five acres about 30 miles out of Seattle, in Fall City, Washington, near Redmond (home of Microsoft) and is the brainchild of Hilarie Cash, a therapist who had until this summer been treating patients with presumed internet addiction but only on a day-by-day basis.
Current research suggests that anywhere from 6-10 % of the online population is dependent on one or more aspects of cyber technology and the internet. Among gamers, those playing multi-user games (like World of Warcraft) appear to be addicted at much higher levels. Both China and South Korea have designated Internet Addiction as their #1 public health danger and have responded by developing multiple treatment programs. The United States, by contrast, has been slower to recognize and respond to the problem but now is beginning to take some active steps. This program is part of that process.

If you're wondering if you could be a victim of internet addiction - ReSTART offers you a test where you can spot the signals of addiction which is (ahem!?) located on the internet www.netaddictionrecovery.com.
