Wata! wata! wata!
Oriental martial arts have always been a source of limitless inspiration for cinema, music and videogames since Bruce Lee burst onto the big screen and now it’s time to take a little Tarantino inspiration into the gym too. Put down your blackberry and indulge in some calming kata, chon-ji and dojo jun's philosophy rather than tweeting your own frustrated one.
Korea's national sport is Tae Kwon Do, literally meaning the "art of air kicks". It's created by a combination of fast kicks, and is the perfect way to lose weight, tone up and offer protection on the city’s mean streets.
Getting somebody to the ground with a few movements and full of grace is not easy (we try it every weekend in the pub) but Aikido can. One of the most recent Japanese martial arts (originating in around 1930) the artful sport references poetry and harmony in movements.
It’s not all hippy nonsense however. Punches, kicks, jumps and moral values follow its harmonious beginnings providing a way to elevate both mind and soul and harmonize it with a perfect body.
Take a take a break from the Hollywood fitness fads and opt for an Asian fitness-fix instead.
