Tobacco to treat the skin?
Although it may be hard to believe, studies have shown that smoking helps the skin. Well, not smoking itself, but tobacco. So, don't go have smoke blown in your face, as it wont render any dermatological miracles. CosmeticsDesign reported that Italian researchers have discovered sugar-peptide in wild tobacco plants could have anti-aging properties for the skin. The sugar-peptide contains antioxidants and promotes collagen synthesis.
Initially, researchers were "looking for compounds that could protect crops from environmental stresses but they discovered that the path ways they uncovered in plants had applications to animals as well. Specifically, they found that human keratinocytes treated with this sugar-peptide mix increased expression of two sirtuin proteins which are thought to be linked to aging".

Like with any scientific discovery, further tests will be performed to confirm tobacco's anti-aging power. We wonder just how long it will take for tobacco treatments to be introduced into trendy spas and possibly given names along the lines of the "smoking hot" treatment or simply, "smoking beauty".
