The unlikely pedicurist

Posted Mar 2, 2010

It would seem unlikely that the words, pedicure and fish would be uttered in the same sentence. But in actuality, the unconventional pedicure involving aquatic life has been popular in countries from the United States to even Turkey. It seems France has caught the bug, as many spas are now offering these fishy pedicures.

Why fish? The Garra rufa and Cyprinion fish, better known as "doctor fish", have been used by many dermatologists for their ability to treat skin conditions like psoriasis. The Garra fish themselves, are found in river basins of the Northern and Central Middle East. It's been reported that after a patient submerges their feet into a tub full of the Garra fish, they then feed of dead skin and leave the skin looking renewed. Some patients have actually seen full recovery from previous skin ailments after being treated with the Garra fish. The services of the Garra fish have been used almost everywhere in the world, but recently are gaining popularity in Paris, France.

With fashion week commencing today in Paris, why not treat yourself to the fish pedicure? That way, you can strut your stuff from to show to show knowing that you're feet look just as good as the pair of pumps you're sporting.
