The Sarkozy diet & the cottage cheese revival

Posted Oct 8, 2009

The U.K’s Times newspaper reports, “brains and political talent are no longer enough to land a job in the French Cabinet." Trim figures are what it takes. We discover Sarkozy's power diet.

We imagine living with a supermodel (Carla Bruni Sarkozy) is not easy, and naturally one’s habits might waver towards the more health conscious end of the spectrum, however French President Sarkozy seems to be quite literally living the supermodel life.

The president is said to be living off cottage cheese, fruit compote and mineral water, the teetotal Sarkozy is said to have lost some 15 pounds over the past 18 months. And herein opens an important question – can one rule a country on a diet of cottage cheese? One imagines such a diet doesn’t fall hand in hand with creativity or stamina. If our attempts at dieting are anything to go by, we imagine Sarkozy dreaming of a nice slice of nice Brie whilst asking what it was Obama said…

A supermodel diet as most ladies will already be aware for is sadly unworkable in real life. Supermodels live a closeted life of limousines, beauticians, massages, five-star hotels and photo-shoots on a Bali beach. They don’t need to make potentially life-changing decisions nor even have to sit at a desk – which we rarely manage when on a diet.

Cuisine at the Elysée and Paris ministries also appears to resemble a high-class spa. “Meat, cheese and traditional desserts have given way to frugal servings of fish, vegetables, salad and sorbets,” reports The Times.

Wine is still served, but when the host is sipping mineral water one doesn’t imagine much wine is being consumed.

Cottage cheese – the food to symbolize power and beauty. Who’d have thought?
