Spring 2010: Go West, life is blonder there

Posted Oct 9, 2009

Swide reported back in May that blondes are having more financial fun, as the current economic crisis creates the renaissance of the blonde. During the spring 2010 shoes the argument appeared to have become a reality as Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel in Paris and Dolce & Gabbana in Milan showed a bevy of blonde Bardot look-a likes.

Claudia Schiffer front row at Chanel, stopping traffic in D&G’s latest Anthology fragrance ads, and Chanel Iman even dyed her eyebrows blonde – the perennial bombshell Brigitte Bardot is influencing fashion once again.

“It’s back to the country,” Karl Lagerfeld about his 2010 spring collection that had a country albeit a luxury twist to it. At D&G, designers Stefano Gabbana and Domencio Dolce showed a collection inspired by those early Kate Moss pics shot by Corinne Day and Brigitte Bardot in the western movie, 'Viva Maria'. It was back to the country again – but these were cowgirls who'd left the ranch a long time ago for a downtown loft.

The economy is seems is taking us on a creative journey back to the idyllic blonde – albeit a tousled one and the land. Whoever said the blonde gene is in danger on dying out only had to pop backstage at the 2010 shows. After seasons of the quirky and the curious rolling the catwalk roost, we appear to be pining for a sure thing – the reassuring shot of a bubbly blonde (Chanel models showcased smiles better than their bags) and those wistful days living off the land rather than stocks and shares.
