Pet acupuncture hits Hollywood

Posted Oct 21, 2008

It may no longer be a dog's life as a pet pooch

When we heard Jennifer Aniston was helping her beloved pooches with a spot of therapy we couldn't help but wonder if we had been neglecting our own furry friends. After a bit of research a recent New York Post helped us to pin down the celebrity vet du jour - Dr. Patrick Mahaney.

A pet health expert working in Los Angeles, Dr. Mahaney combines a traditional veterinary practice with a dash of Eastern wisdom which has developed a celebrity client list that according to Blog talk Radio now includes along with Jennifer Anniston - Patrick Dempsey, Bryce Howard and Alicia Silverstone.

Unusual for a vet (but perhaps commonplace in Hollywood?) Dr. Mahaney offers a house call service called California Pet Acupuncture & Wellness (CPAW) that aims to ensure comfort and wellness for one's pets. He believes a pet’s health and mobility can be compromised as a result of age related changes, trauma, surgery, or cancer and by improving the well being of pet it enhances the connection we share with them. Treatments include acupuncture, home environment consultation, veterinarian supervised exercise sessions, hospice services, and even euthanasia - and there we were thinking a a daily walk was enough.

We intend to keep our European feet firmly on the ground - however in the meantime and before we need to resort to acunpucture, we'll aim to keep our dogs close at hand inside the very cute new Dolce&Gabbana Miss Cat and Miss Dog bags - in-store for Christmas.
