Discovering beauty with Jessica Simpson

Posted Mar 31, 2010

Jessica Simpson's newest show, "The Price of Beauty" can be described as being part beauty guide and travelogue, as she travels the globe in an attempt to discovery what 'beauty' means to different cultures with the guided help of her friends.

Jessica Simpson's "The Price of Beauty" doesn't aim to solely reveal a country's relatively strange beauty rituals, but also the extreme lengths people go to in search of being beautiful.“Beauty is an easy thing to become obsessed with,” says VH1 The Price of Beauty star Jessica Simpson. “People put so much pressure on women to be beautiful. There’s always a new diet to follow, a new beauty product to use, but is that really what defines beauty? I’m going to travel the world and see what makes a woman in different cultures feel beautiful.

In the show's first episode, Jessica along with friends CaCee and Ken head to Bangkok. The first thing they do upon arriving is treat themselves to the famous Thai massage. It's not all fun in Bangkok for Jessica as she is left in tears after having heard a crushing story told by retired singer, Panya. Panya is one of many Thai women who bleach their faces in an effort to be fair-skinned. Unlike America, being tanned isn't beautiful but suggests that a person works under the sun and is of a lower-class. Panya's overuse of bleach left her disfigured and forced her to give up her singing career.

After such an emotional heavy episode, Jessica and company jet off to the chic city of Paris where they visit the famous Caudalie Spa. The Caudalie treatments, Jessica describing them "weird", related to all things wine from the wooden stick rubdown to the wine spa bath. The "Wooden Stick" (made out of the same oak used to make wine barrels) treatment involves being massaged up and down with a stick. The point of the treatment is to "stimulate pressure points and improve one's skin tone". The next wine-inspired treatment is the "Crushed Cabernet Scrub" where a therapist mixes whole grape seeds, grape seed oil, brown sugar, honey and lotion from Caudalie's line, leaving your skin feeling smooth. Last but not least, if you're visiting the Caudalie Spa, you can't leave without trying their famous "Red Wine Barrel Bath" in ending your vinotherapy.
