The FW02 collection was a mix and match of styles, inspirations, historical periods and ethnicities. In an effort to hone in on the concept of casual luxury, Dolce&Gabbana fashioned a collection built on contrasts. North African, Hippie, Victorian and Western, were merged in a marriage of styles, fabrics and silhouettes.

The Spring Summer 2001 was an important season for Dolce&Gabbana. The collection looked back at the decade of the house’s birth, the Eighties, with its fashion, music and icons. Madonna of course was a central influence in this collection, but in more ways that one.

David Bowie said of Berlin in the 70’s that it was ’the greatest cultural extravaganza that one can imagine’. The same is true today, but for all its vibrancy, energy and creativity the greatest European city was missing something… Not any more, Dolce&Gabbana have opened their first flagship store in Berlin and as the city’s socialites gathered for the opening night celebration Swide sent local Zoë Noble along for the inside view.

Swide reveals exclusive access to the fittings the day before the show. Protagonists are the baroque embroidery and luscious knitwear of the Fall Winter 2013 Dolce&Gabbana Men’s Collection. Supporting actors are played by the statuesque figures of Dolce&Gabbana favourites Simone Nobili and Adam Senn. This is where months of work, thought and inspiration come to life for the first time.
