FW 96/97: Fellini - Le Notti di Cabiria

Rigorous tailoring meets cheerful prints. On the technical aspect, this is the first thing that comes to mind when looking closely at the archives, the press release, the inspirational drawings.
Or "the" inspiration: Fellini's "Le Notti di Cabiria" (1957). The tale of a feisty hooker known for her signature thrown together look. Translated in fashion by "Mix & Match". A carefree yet very intense look that pushes the limits of seduction to the extreme.
Brocades, flowers, zebra, cherry, crochet, herringbone twee, leopard & lace: a parade of prints and materials worn together mixing the day with the night in a state of timeless confusion and dream.
The signature look? A herringbone coat and black seamed stockings. Take note.
Cherry blossoms, zebra prints, tailored coats, and the corset dress in all of
its versions. It's a full explosion of cheerfulness and red. A salute to
Giulietta Masina.

In an effort to hone in on the concept of casual luxury, Dolce&Gabbana fashioned a collection built on contrasts. North African, Hippie, Victorian and Western, were merged in a marriage of styles, fabrics and silhouettes.

The brand’s capacity to take the artistic traditions and aesthetic of Italy and make them their own is unsurpassable and highly romantic to fashion lovers.
