TRAILER: Showdown Between Masculine & Feminine
No other collection has had such direct and emotional ties between men’s and women’s. In a sense it is the celebration of the two worlds combining, more effectively it is a hymn to women and their innate ability to do what freedom requires even when it looks as if it is set under a number of rules. The imagery of the pictures follows Pasolini’s neo-realism and splashes with colours and stories that are assembled as if in an Italian painting.
The Brit-rock feel mixes with the streets of Rome, Pasolini’s times, and a fierce feminine figure. From the beginning, a story that needs, urges to be told, has been created, for once not just by wearing the collection.
The Masculine and Feminine Game has always been part of Dolce&Gabbana’s DNA, however, this time it is more evident than ever. It looks inside the tiniest cells of the world and sees the role play as something more intensely engraved in our daily lives and imaginations. We all are street boys living in Pasolini’s world. We walk those streets and we intentionally cross the masculine and feminine boundaries.
It is a game and it can be a serious one, or lead to a humorous moment of amusement: take a look at the article in which I tell you how amidst all the women men and women women in backstage, I couldn’t find the Model I needed to interview. No surprise we find Constance Jablonski back in the ad campaign. The “real” men in the FW campaign look as lost as I did looking for their women who seem to be doing just fine without them. The men act like rockstar “ragazzacci” and their talent expresses itself in this search for their muse. I had a chance to meet a Brit sort of ragazzaccio, the man who inspired the Eccentric Men’s Collection: Bryan Ferry during a backstage interview and talked about how clothes reveal this side of a man’s character, and how at times his muse was none other than Amanda Lear.
Noah Mills, Adam Senn, Arthurt Kulkov, Guy Robinson, Nils Butler, Paolo Anchisi & Daisuke are present in the men's campaign. Some have already explained their eccentric feel during the press conference of the men’s collection as the Eccentric Five.
Isabeli Fontana,Liu Wen, Maryna Linchuk, Constance Jablonski, Jac Jagaciak and Kate King are present in the women's.
In the Video of the Must-Haves for women, two important elements intertwined or walked alone. The inspiration was clear: find your masculine side and enhance your feminine one to have a rocking party. An XY interpretation of fashion walking hand in hand on the catwalk. A contamination of the luxurious feminine fabrics with men’s pieces, or just feminine with a flip-side option.
I can’t help but look back on that first moodboard from the Women’s Fashion Show FW12 : Tailoring, Men, Women, Masculine…. And think there is more to it than just a collection. Or in this case an ad campaign. It’s a story that inspired us, and continues to inspire my pen.
