The roots of the first collection
Sicily seems conceptually far from luxury, from the watchful press, and from Hollywood stars. Yet, these were its silent foundations and within Sicily’s ancient history is where we find the origins of Dolce&Gabbana, and the roots of its first collection. These are the elements that formed the style code of this legendary Milanese design house and it succeeds in transforming the designer’s love for this region into tiny recognizable elements.
The advertising campaign shot at the end of the eighties featured real women, spontaneous on camera, offering shy portraits of a simple, austere, poor and yet wonderfully seductive daily life.
In black and white, the ambiance (religion, Baroque, rural) appears to vanish creating a perfect backdrop that beautifully showcases the bold silhouettes from this collection.

Sicilian chastity takes fashion in a new long direction
Liberally inspired by young, virtuous Sicilian women at the end of the nineteenth century, waiting to be married, ‘Concettine’ and ‘Rosaline’ dress their virginal bodies in black, accompanied by long skirts, in a collection that defies current trends for ‘short’, in a brave, fun and real way.
For the summer dressed as a modest Sicilian woman, not correctly dressed; a white cotton bib over a black corset, that is longer than usual. Worn over a corset, is a double skirt with drawstrings that create both a draping and voluminous effect – a transformation important to the designers. Finally, the shoes resemble those of a nun.
