Fellini and a gothic magic
Using images from the designer's latest book "Diamonds & Pearls" shot by photographer Guenter Parth - Swide takes a peek in the Dolce & Gabbana archive.
Designers Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana have a strong interest in in film - both past and contemporary. as such Fellini's breathaking cinematic scenes in the film Roma, sparked their creativity and began an exploration of their Italian Catholic roots tat reflected in this wonderful collection.
The Fellini film 'Roma' is 'surreal film-making at its best - offering a whole range of luscious and poignant images which captures the true story of Fellini's move from his native Rimini to Rome.
Long dresses based on the scene from the film above (main image) provided the key to this collection and its catwalk show. Long dresses were given a modern touch with exquisite detailing and beading work whilst short skirts paired with extremely high heels proved a sharp and sexy contrast and Dolce & Gabbana's quirky ironic touch.
Accessories were a key part of the collection. Edwardian style boots with laces, bags with feather detailing and oversized black necklaces with flowers created the foundations of Dolce & Gabbana's dedicated attention to their now popular accessories line.
The collection's advertising campaign was shot by legendary photographer Steven Klein, who offered his own unique take on the collection, adding an 'Adams Family touch' and shooting the collection in a disused airport in New York.
