Fall Winter 86/87, the real Dolce & Gabbana woman was on her way

 The duo’s second show revealed some signs of what would become their trademark.

 

After a first collection that could have been the last one, Domenico’s family came to the rescue for Fall Winter 86/87, there was no extra money to spend, no spare time left to think things twice. Domenico and Stefano had only one way to choose from: the highway. Thanks to their talent and determination, they came up with a very original proposal showcasing classic designs cut in innovative fabrics. We are in the middle of the eighties, power dressing is winning the game; geometric and sharp cuts are prevailing on the catwalk, think Thierry Mugler or Claude Montana.

The young two Italian new comers decided that despite the lack of resources, they would challenge the fashion world and did so. From their first worn out jeans (they literally used stones to make holes in the fabric) to skinny tubular jersey dresses or egg-shaped coats, the evidence was there: nothing could stop them from becoming trendsetters.
Real Woman was the theme of the show as an echo to the fact that they had to call their friends to run down the catwalk for them. Diverse personalities such as actors, architects, academicians were among the first to wear Dolce&Gabbana. Right after the show ended, it was only about the next season with one obsession: stretch...
