AW 90-91 Collection: a dark romance in Little Italy

Posted Jan 30, 2011

Back in the days of the supermodel era, Dolce&Gabbana introduced their view of glamour on a set of stunning showgirls meet Italian bad boys.

Rolling on their fashion movie, the creative duo mixed its very feminine Sicilian signature with mannish cuts.

A mix that was not supposed to perfectly match but to create contrasts and reveal tensions and attractions. This womenswear collection is the first one thought after the launch of the Dolce&Gabbana menswear line.

So no wonder that there are some inspirations taken from the closet next door to create looks worn by divas such as Linda Evangelista or Christy Turlington. The two performed amazingly well as sparkling showgirls and did give the cue to the Italian coppolas. Shot by Steven Meisel the embroidered corset gets a real momentum. High on a strong cinema heritage, the cast and its director did get the best out of a cat-eye and give-me-your-lips play.
In 1990, the Italian fashion house clearly announced a new fashion for him and for her by playing with wider shapes and original proportions. But first and foremost Domenico and Stefano were among the first to blur the line between femininity and masculinity. The focus was on sensuality whatever it is made of and however it is expressed.
