A decadent trip through 1930's Bohemia

Posted Dec 29, 2008

Dolce & Gabbana's FW 00/01 collection was entitled, "Tamara de Lempicka" - inspired by the German expressionist painter of the same name.

As wearable today as it was then, this collection explored the heady times of Art Deco’s Twenties and Thirties, on a luxe-bohemian journey with a sexy muse. It featured sun-ray pleated dresses styled with lurex tights, brocade trousers and stripes with undertones of the Seventies in velvet, lurex, gold hoop earrings and long scarves. Berets with crystals and tweed suits paid homage to Marlene Dietrich creating looks that were artistic, colourful, ecletic and personal.

Dolce & Gabbana’s artistry at combining different references in one collection was here, as was their signature touch of fun and disco in platform shoes embellished with oversized flowers. Rich leather floor length coats, and fur jackets had an air of louché sexiness as if we were voyeurs able to catch a glimpse of Tamara herself in a luxurious den of decadence.
