1990-1995, menswear, Sicilian tempo

Posted Jun 8, 2010

Dolce&Gabbana is celebrating 20 years of menswear creations so take a few moments to watch what our designers had to say back in the early nineties.

Domenico and Stefano have built a strong menswear line that is now a reference when it comes to men dressing. The Dolce&Gabbana Man exists and is recognizable thanks to specific characteristics. When they started to play in the menswear fashion field, the duo had to come up with a distinctive proposal but also with something that would remain unique overtime. Through this video, one understands that the first element the designers wanted to push was the Sicilian influence. The Sicilian black cap set the rules: this man is strong, passionate and sophisticated. He has a sense of style and reinvents himself everyday. Think young men on Vespas: it is more than an attitude, it is a lifestyle.

High waisted straight pants stuffed in ankle boots and worn with the famous canotta illustrate the Sicilianità. The models, the hairstyles even the set-up is an ode to the South of Italy.  The spring summer 1994 show's finale foretells the now known identity of Mr Dolce&Gabbana: he is free, masculine and irresistible… Even with a simple white canotta and a linen long skirt, he has got what it takes to seduce.
