Desperately seeking model

Posted Feb 24, 2011

Setting: D&G FW12. Task: interview with a model. Result: swollen feet.

D&G FW12 Fashion Show, my mission for the day get an interview with a model, not just any model of course. This is the tale of how it went, either well or bad.

I must have been color blinded by all the bright colors and flashes going around but this backstage took its toll on my fashion nerves. Thankfully some models were being helpful in leading the way to my prey who was literally gone missing. Talking with the casting agent the first version was: she is still at the other shows she will appear soon. Here in after my model will be named "she" for post-production purposes.

She is sitting next to me. (sure?)

So I tip toed my way to the entrance waiting for she. An almost habitué of backstage - get the interview or don't come back to the office - madness, I knew something was wary when She wasn't showing up at all.

Sorry I am not SHE.

Told they had seen her at hair, I pushed my small height in and did get a glimpse of her for only one second, until I was taken down by an hair stylist with a brush and blow dryer in hand. Committed to my job, I didn't faint from the painful brush-attack, but managed to get up and stalk "She" who had obsviously disappeared.

I'll take you to her, follow me... (Thanks Joan)

Over there, over there, I saw her!

Almost there. "She" was comfortably sitting at make-up, I sighed with relief and put a tent in front of her, literally. My cameraman barely surviving from all the running and standing around, positive this time we would get our girl.

Of course not.

Some days are easy, some days can go awfully wrong. At least I made a lot of model-friends along the way (although not sure how that will increase my social scene for nobody will SEE me at all). Why? Well, make-up artists out there please explain why an 18 year old goddess needs a 45 minute long make-over? Honestly, what needs so much cover up when you are born gorgeous and probably will die gorgeous.

Are you desperately seeking Susan?

So off she went because time was running out, she had to get dressed, walk the show, and I was left there, speechless. Until a genius idea came to my mind: better take advantage of those sneaker-wedges and run after her. Two advantages of the so-called mission sneakers: finally I was a bit higher up and could see the girls in the face, and of yes, I could run instead of swing on my heels.

Guess which feet are mine, I can say I did look like a model for one hour.

Models shocked by my performance as fashion-runner.

Did I find her? That's a secret I will tell, but not yet.
