The pre-holiday
Yes, hysterical though it may sound, the concept that is a week's pre-holiday will ensure you have the requisite downtime to cope with the demands of 'a real holiday'. As fashion land comes spinning to a close in August (unless you're an intern of course), the mere thought of the heels coming off ensures a week spent getting back into shape - and that's just the feet.
Although here in DGland we're still hanging on for dear life on a diet of four espressos a day and passive aggression, there's a whole host of holiday tips I've picked up that one won’t find in the lonely Planet.
1. The phrase for those in the know is "stop by for a granita" (as if we were all teetotal). The granita part is a code word for bohemian chic and yacht (big).
2. Holidays can of course be for self-improvement but no one said anything about the mind. Other forms of self-improvement have been booked long ago.
3. “A week in the country” means I’m stuck with the parents.
4. Doctor’s appointments are actually bikini waxes.
