The office bike

Posted Sep 3, 2008

The need for perfection and the fave moment of the season...AW personal deliveries arrive!

In order to kick start the P-F-W (pre-fashion week) regime I have decided to cycle to work. Shocking I know. With the height of the heels we wear in the office its not a mode of transport one would immediately associated with getting to the DG office but we are a fit little bunch here. If I don’t lock my bike at a designated stand by 8.45am, I don’t have a hope in hell of parking it, and inevitably, as Milan is home to the world’s bike thieves it will be stolen by lunch-time.

Cycle to work in a very lethargic state and worry I may be killing myself with pollution. My social life is sadly on hold until I can re-consume alcohol and apart from the cat I realize I have not spoken to anyone outside of office hours this week (well not in the tradition sense..couldn't function without skype). Not that my friends will have noticed...They are either in

NY - "in a state of exhaustion post show and unable to speak", or

Milan - "in a state of exhaustion pre-show and unable to speak", or

Paris - "in a state or exhaustion pre-show and unable to speak" or

London - "getting drunk pre-show and unable to speak".

The cat at least is improving its temperamental humour. I imagine Mr. Gandy catching my eye backstage (its rumored he will be a guest of honour) and the effort seems more worthwhile.

In the office our autumn winter deliveries have arrived and we spend an embarrassing amount of time trying on our new headscarves and deciding who looks the most regal. As the honorary Brit I had hoped I would win but it would seem, as usual the honour goes to beautiful Silvia. We have never understood why she has yet to be granted backstage access. Perhaps they are worried she will be mistaken for a catwalk model and end up on the catwalk thus leaving our office without our muse? I opt instead for tying my headscarf to my handbag, hoping it will recreate a wealthy French lady look. With my eye bags and detox skin I am not entirely convinced it works.

Spend the rest of the day in meetings discussing the imminent arrival of several A-list stars (yippeeeee).

Leave work late due to wasted hours with my new headscarf and crawl into bed without dinner. The cat joins me after an anguished hour watching me see if my other new AW purchase, a little dress…fits…could fit with minor adjustments…oops, can be mended...
