The boss is here
Whereas lesser mortals may assume leaving work entails putting on a tracksuit, getting drunk with friends, and allowing one's hair to break-free of its blow-dry, leaving work in DG land is well, none of the above. if your boss is a superstar designer, and known to be out and about regularly, there is no margin for a style error.
Out and about on Friday evening during the excuse to party that is Milan design week and my destination of choice - a new magazine launch (yes despite the economic crisis fashion is determined to plough on with what it knows best - creating opportunities to sip free champagne). Luckily a last-minute moment of clarity (and before the first vodka martini had kicked in), I replaced my dowdy flats with a pair of heels. No sooner had I corrected my sartorial error, just like Cinderella, in walked my Prince, Mr.G.
If you're a regular reader of this insightful blog - you'll appreaciate my usual reaction to the sighting of my boss, which usually involves running/hiding/cowering in a corner, for no apparent reason. As is the custom, I chose to remain in a corner - frozen to the spot hoping he wouldn't see me or my slightly grubby outfit and eating weird yogurt dessert canapes from testubes that no-one else was eating.
After consuming the contents of the fourth test-tube, I made a bid for the door, only to be spotted by a member of the press team who informed me "the boss is here". No kidding batman.
