The abominal dress-code

Posted Jan 8, 2009

Going to work may be one of the only legitimate reasons for buying and of course wearing heels. Pity then the snow has stopped everything.

Work = high heels. I've contemplated the freelance lifestyle but I've seen the results (tracksuits, bad hair, shapeless jumpers), no for me, heels win every time - except that is until the temperature decides to hit -14.

When I decided to live in Milan I had no idea that January would feel like rural Canada leaving me with no option but to wear clothes that ordinarily I would walk a dog in. Thus, my office attire is taking on a new routine that involves arriving thirty minutes early in the office so I can change into an outfit that doesn't scream outdoors, not everyone may I add is making the same effort. I'll save these pics for another day.

Weirdly - and you'll find this in any "creative" office - the snow although hasn't brought out the child in everyone, (in fact now I come to think of it I can't imagine any of colleagues ever being a child - they all seem far too sophisticated to have ever dribbled/fallen over/danced to Tiffiany) - no, the snow has instead brought out the artiste in everyone. I've never seen so many co-workers snapping at the snow like it were a member of the A-list in a furious attempt to post the most abstract snow shots on Facebook. I won't bore you with the results but needless to say I'm hoping for a thaw pretty soon before we lose several members of staff to a photography sabbatical.
