The Milanese makeover
The interesting fact is that all these incidents have been related to my style, or rather my "new style". Heels, a sexy dress, blow-dried hair and lipstick, in summary, I'm a made-up madam. Call it want you want - bourgeois, small-mindedness, or sexism but the fact remains that since moving to Milan I've noticed an incredible amount of difference in people's attitudes - both men & women to how I dress, and that's before I even mention life on DG planet.
It's not as if I was out of the fashion loop before. Before moving to Milan I worked in London where although a huge emphasis is of course placed on appearance, a London girl respects a definitive nonchalance about her look. In London, I would put on a sexy dress, and then add leggings underneath, wear heels with a mop of bed-head hair, or a little black dress with short black nails - anything to put off people off the well-dressed scent and the feminine trail.
Fast forward to life on the DG planet and life is a haze of dominatrix heels, Bellucci style curves, and corset dresses. What no one told me however, is the power that just one of these little elements can provide. On a recent weekend back in London, my regular Milanese office outfit secured a table without a prior reservation at The Wolseley, a glass of champagne with a film director and a grumpy political journalist who was actually prepared to chat to me – needless to say the Mediterranean power vibe is going to be sticking around for a little while longer.
