Snowed in, freaked out

10.45 am, on a break from the 10 am coffee break: sat at my desk, browsing my favourite daily digest of fashion trends and number one, two and three guilty pleasures (also brilliantly convenient as it can always pass off as "research"). Thoroughly enjoying myself until I stumble upon a report on the coolest new boot to wear in times of major snow and thereafter experience traumatic flashbacks from my own day of being snowed in the office...
The day I was set free by a couple of bin liners. Quite literally so: after painfully deliberating whether a chic white desk could morph into a chic and not-so-comfy white bed I found I had to accept that my colleague's "brilliant" invention (my colleague being male and therefore amused rather than appalled) was indeed the only way out. A new take on the snow boot: small-sized rubbish bags and lots of sticky tape - something about waterproofing (adieu overpriced opaques...) - to be worn over my depressingly inadequate heels.
At that point I wondered if that was perhaps the weirdest ever fashion full circle: had we become so obsessed with looking the part as to become oblivious to real life (and such things as the weather) and as a result consider stepping out in bin liners an acceptable alternative? Well the wondering only lasted a couple of minutes until I stepped out and started hopping about in the snow (they were elegant hops...) like the dry-footed smug-stilettoed I had become.
And while it's all so wet and grey at the moment you never know when the city will turn back into a brown slushfest. My advice to all of you figuring out what to pack for the upcoming men's shows? Go wild on the stilettos and brogues and forego the boots, in Milan the bin liner is the new it-bag*.
