Mennequins

Posted Dec 9, 2008

There I was on my third non-urgent trip upstairs to the menswear selling floor (read my other posts - if you want to understand the SHEER beauty of this floor) - when I spotted someone i thought I knew...

Normally on the menswear floor - I spot a model, think I know him from "somewhere outside of work", smile, say hello and get blanked. Today however I was 100% certain I had spotted a male character I KNEW and not via the internet. Skulking around the rails, camouflage is easy here - the rails are filled with shades of black and quite predictably so are the staff's outfits, anyway after scarily stroking cashmere for ten minutes (addictive stuff cashmere) I plucked up enough courage to say hello, and without a microphone.

Obviously the floor was busy "doing business" so everyone looked very cross at my intrusion. After I said hello, or rather whispered it - my "friend" didn't hear shit - and so I had to repeat it a couple more times before eventually he turned to recognise me - THANK GOD, just as security were already looming ready to radio me straight back to my office.

Anyway, turns out my ex-colleague is now successful buyer for BIG FAMOUS DEPARTMENT STORE! Hurrah for connections and what I hope will be a discount card of V.I.P proportions. The other bonus is after the head of sales spotted me with big-time buyer, I also trust I'll be allowed another few trips upstairs without the need for security.
