I walk the pink carpet with Barbie

Posted Mar 10, 2009

As Barbie celebrated her 50th birthday last night I attended my first PFWE (post fashion week event). Not for the faint-hearted I got a glimpse of what my future could hold.

Safely wrapped up in the glitz of fashion week last week and the warm glow of Gossip Girl at the weekend - I ventured out last night in a show of sisterhood to celebrate Barbie's half century.

Used to a red carpet of luxurious pile, the pink carpet came, as a bit of a shock as did the lighting. Barbie is so obviously not a diva unlike other so many other A-Listers that I could mention with vampire-like fears of bright lighting.

Taking a peek at Barbie last night with her blonde hair, and blue eye shadow - it was apparent Barbie is not one for growing old gracefully. After yet another glass of champagne and another glance at her unmoving face (yes, I realise she's a doll but the effect is the same in the real world too) - I had a horrible premonition of what my life could be like at fifty.

If I remain in the vicinity of the red carpet with a champagne glass in my hand - will I too be demoted to a pink carpet with bad lighting and a desperate unmoving face in a few years?? Is this what the fashion future holds?
