Home alone
The thing is when you're sick and alone in italy - there's not really an M&S to fall back on or a healthy (any) takeaway service - in fact the whole absence of ready made food although wonderful can be somewhat of a hazard when sick and in need of sustenance. Yes, despite Italy being wonderful in the food department - olives, cheese, pasta, vino... (and I understand sympathy might be somewhat scarce if you're reading this with a limp sandwich) but trying being find ready-made food when you're in a country that prides itself on super fresh food and your nearest neighbours are an antiques shop and an artisan candle store
Living in fear of the cold outside and thus aggravating my fashion flu any further (and the fact all my coats are currently at the dry-cleaners) - I had no other option but to use some of the organic vegetables that I so religiously buy every week and never use. After a few seconds however in the kitchen and finally opening all my neatly arranged (and unused) cookbooks I realised why I'm such a fan of canapes and quickly succumbed to calling my local bar and asking if they could send over a plate of spaghetti. I don't know who was more shocked - the barman seeing me au naturale or me relaising I'd just the nearest thing to a takeaway - only far better. Room service at home - I feel much more myself already. Viva Italia!
