Colleague Envy

Posted Jun 12, 2009

Picture the scene...your colleague is on a shoot in Capri with David Gandy eating fresh fish, with a seaview. I on the other hand have the intern, a sandwich and a view of a garage. Jealous me?

As you'll be all be aware, I pride myself on having a particular jammy position. Life in fashion's fast lane requires survival of the fittest techniques (in the literal sense – step forward Jesus Luz ) and as such my hard fought position is a badge of honour. When your to-do list reads like the pages of Hello magazine, you know those hours locked in a fashion cupboard were worth the pain.

That was however until I learnt about another - and dare I say it position here in DG land that appears to involve responsibility for the world's hottest men. As we speak my high-powered colleague is in Capri with none other than our beloved David Gandy and informing me of the hazards of swimwear shoots - see through shorts.

Jealously being the emotion of choice in fashion-land it was only natural that I did an immediate comparison of her situation as opposed to mine.

1.

Colleague: Coffee with David Gandy (lover of espressos apparently...).

Me: The third weak cappuccino of the day from our basement machine.

2.

Colleague: Fresh fish lunch with David Gandy & Mario Testino with a Capri seaview.

Me: Supermarket nibbles (and yes we do carry our packed lunches to work in DG bags).

3.

Colleague: Working relationship with David Gandy

Me: Working relationship with the office intern

As I sign off the day - the news is just in that said colleague is back in the office tomorrow in order to deal with Jesus Luz. I'm on the phone the H.R for a transfer as we speak.
