Chat up lines Italian style
As you can probably guess - I'm a big fan of magazines and needless to say after a year's research I've located the best newsstand in Milan to get my fix of international titles. Yesterday in search of the new Vogue I jogged by (shows are approaching) and when I didn't spot it waving back at me - I asked the nice newspaper man when it was likely to arrive. This part all went very well - he replied that Vogue would be along very soon and he would save me a copy when it came in.
Remembering however the fact I tend to roll out of work a little late...I asked him or rather I THOUGHT I asked him what time he usually shuts during the evening. Unsure of why he looked so pleased he started chatting away at length about what time he usually shuts, where he goes after he closes, what he usually likes to do.
Obviously at this point I was growing slightly alarmed at the amount of information he was revealing for (what I thought ) was such a innocent question - but after another few cheeky smiles followed by a wink - the euro dropped and I realised perhaps my "innocent" question wasn't so innocent after all. I had...and to my horror used the oldest line in the book - and asked the magazine seller "what he was doing later..."
Needless to say if anyone fancies sending me the latest copy of Vogue I'd really appreciate it given I can go no-where near the newspaper stand ever again...
