Back in the fashion jungle

Posted Apr 21, 2009

After a week opting out of fashion's tireless circus I'm back in Milan and quite literally fashion's jungle. With the rain refusing to stop, the office palm trees (yes, we do have them) are starting to resemble the Amazon rather than a high-end beach.

After freezing for the better part of a week in Northern England (for FW fashion kittens only) - it was with a hopeful smile that I touched down in Milan yesterday en route to what I hoped would be glorious sunshine. How wrong me and wardrobe were. Rain, rain and more rain - and it hasn't stopped.

There is very little worse (obviously this is relative before you all comment) than the combination of returning to work after time off, a Monday morning and RAIN. At least the rest of the office appears to be in dampened spirits too, including our resident palm trees which have taken on a rather mutant wild look with the constant downpour.

Despite the jungle setting being an obvious and apt setting for our industry - the sight of the dishevelled trees is starting to look ever so sad. I used to walk past them and think of Cannes beaches, the A-list and champagne cocktails - now all I see is survival of the fitness and the need to buy waterproof trousers. Euurgh.

Returning to work also means the uniform is back on, yes we're most definitely "back to black" (Amy did you have an office inspiration we wonder??) here. My only worry (again - relative) is if I happen to see a Tarzan figure swinging in the office palm trees - I'm not convinced the black would work.
