An extreme timetable

Posted Feb 25, 2009

A run through of next Monday's schedule during fashion week appears to leave no time to eat or even go to the loo. I may not be working down a mine but it certainly ain't one long-round of air-kissing...

If you think fashion week consists of champagne, models and heels - you're absolutely right - for those that get to sit on front row chairs. For those however who inhabit the more fluorescent part of the fashion week i.e. backstage during a catwalk show - life is a different ball-game altogether.

Backstage life is more about survival - although you're not quite picking crumbs up from the floor - a bottle of warm water and a stale croissant is about as good as it gets. Despite it being possibly being the most exciting/fascinating/surreal/magical experience (if of course you're into this sort of thing) it’s usually a hungry affair consisting of swollen feet (twisted ankles), embarrassing gaffes, OTT outfits at 10am and days of impossible high-maintenance behaviour that leaves friends and lovers wishing to remove you from their address book.

Next Monday is a prime example – not content with an A-list catwalk show, Mr.D & Mr. G also plan to host the opening of an exhibition with American Vogue to celebrate our new make-up line (expect the world’s A-list and Ms Wintour).

Now, to the amateur – this may of course appear to signal a day of glamour, fun and A-list autographs but to anyone who’s frequented the world of clipboards, laminated passes and all black dress codes – you’ll understand what these all means – and it certainly doesn’t involve lunch, phone calls to loved ones and sleep anytime soon. I’ll keep you posted ☺
