Ok, maybe that's a bit TOO jaded, even for me. I've been out of the dating business for a blessed long time, but it seems that a "date" lately is simply the conclusion of a huge build-up in expectations brought on by days-weeks-months of chatting and texting after that fatal "friend request".
The problem with this is that, while chatting online etc, you have time in which to formulate the perfect answer, google those words you've never heard before and seem generally a lot more interesting than you really are. This usually then makes for a rough reality check when the two people in question actually meet face-to-face.
In some movie that I can't recall the title of, set in the future, people even had sex through a virtual reality machine with no actual physical contact. I don't know if we're headed in that direction just yet, I think we can all agree everyone still enjoys a roll in the hay.
