VV Brown: Pop has spoken
Signed to Island Records, home to Amy Winehouse and Lionel Richie, VV Brown's debut album, (real name Vanessa) 'Travelling Like the Light' is out now. Unsurprised that she doesn't have the time for temptation, VV Brown sings, plays the keyboards, synthesiser and trumpet on the album, plus her 11-year-old twin brothers, India and Indica, also sing backing vocals.
VV Brown's current single Shark In The Water.
After a spell in LA (she's quoted as saying she had to sell her guitar to play for her flight back home), VV has opted to live in London at her auntie’s house with her sisters.
“I can’t see myself moving any time soon,” V V says. “Why should I change? I just want a simple life, with extraordinary music in it.”
We actually prefer this version of Shark in The Water, recorded in the back of a London black cab.
Crying Blood, written on V V’s one-string guitar, and with soulful lyrics echoes the story of V V’s life but also the story of one specific relationship with one specific arsehole. “He broke my heart just before I began writing the album,” V V says. “In a way writing Crying Blood, was liberating because I was letting everything out and it felt like there was some distance. But the fact that I was still writing songs about him meant that I wasn’t as liberated as I thought”.

Amidst her album launch, VV has also found time to appear on the catwalk at London Fashion Week and has developed into something of a fashion icon. At Dolce & Gabbana's recent DG set party in London (main image above) VV models her own customized vintage pieces, available to buy at www.vvvintage.com.
