Space travel with Neon Indian

Alan Paloma, better known as Neon Indian, has become a hands-down favourite amongst music bloggers everywhere since he released his first album, "Psychic Chasms" last October. He's returned to the music blogosphere with a new single that takes on an electronic, fun-filled, psychedelic.trip.

You might recognize Neon Indian's Alan Paloma from his first musical project under the name "Vega", but he's quick to point out the difference between the two musical projects. He explains to Flavorwire,“VEGA is more of a labor of love; its goal is to create unadulterated pop music that can speak to anyone, to be accessible and to create interesting sounds in the context of dance music. Neon Indian has far more open range in terms of being able to try new things out.”

It was that very musical experimentation what grabbed the attention of music bloggers, but also the fact Paloma's first two singles were being circulated without a name attached. Neon Indian's identity remained a mystery up until Paloma let the cat out of the bag. Paloma shared with his main reason for keeping his identity hidden with Nerdtorious ,"I think the primary motivation for being anonymous was that I didn’t want the music to be judged pre-emptively, based on any other associations that I had with other music. I kind of had this idea that people would start judging it in reference to something like Vega. They’d say, “Oh, this is just a trippier Vega!’ Or Vega would be like a “dancier Neon Indian.” It seemed to make a lot more sense to sort of let the music speak for itself".

With or without name, Neon Indian's clever electronic beats and synthy soundscapes catapulted tracks like "Deadbeat summer" to the top of charts, even making it top 20 on Pitchfork's Top 100 tracks of 2009. Neon Indian has returned with a new single, "Sleep Paralasyst" that delivers the same lo-fi catchy beats that made us first fall in love. If Neon Indian's new album is anything like his newest single, then we can't wait for its release. Take a listen and travel into future dreamt up by a wide-eye 80s teenager with "Sleep Paralasyst".
