Mimi Xu:The secret soundtrack to fashion week

Posted Sep 17, 2009

Fashion week is defined as much by the music on the runway as the clothes, but when busy checking out other people's shoes and downing champagne, the morning after catwalk soundtracks can be a complete mystery...

And that is of course why Swide is here to stalk the Twitterverse, google the fashionistas, bookmark Facebook and find out exactly what, or rather what the fashion pack were listening to last night.

Fashion’s best-kept secret weapon (if you've been to a fashion party, chances are you've clicked your heels to this little lady), Misty Rabbit, aka. Mimi Xu is a DJ bunny by night and boss of her own record label Kuskus by day. Dior Homme, Prada, Alexander McQueen and Chloe, have all requested her services along with residences at Paris clubs Le Baron and Regine's, as well as gigs at Acne, and Colette twitter.com/mistyrabbit.

With fashion DJ's therefore tricky to pinpoint - Swide has for your playlist pleasure prepared a quick NY fashion week round-up of womenswear fashion week music "trends" to date.

Marc Jacobs kicked off his Kabuki show with Lillac a Libertine,” from the album “Emelline Art Bitchby Charli XCX.

The Rodarte show had "piano music shrieking in the distance on soundtrack" whilst DKNY opted for love songs.

Alexander Wang sent models down the catwalk to 'drum rolls and a military beat' whereas as yesterday's Michael Kors show soundtrack according to Derek Blasberg on Twitter "went from Gaga's Poker Face to Madonna's Celebration. Then back to Gaga's The Fame, now a mix between Madge and Gaga. WE GET IT!!"

Madonna was also on the turntables at DVF who opened her show with Madonna's Erotica.

Meanwhile on the after-party scene, Alexander Wang had Courtney Love (singing both old songs and new in between hurling insults at her audience) followed by a Santigold set.

Spotted any trends? Us neither. When it comes to msuic trends, it would appear fashion folk are in a world of their own...
