Jazmine Sullivan is fearless

Posted Apr 18, 2009

Jazmine Sullivan's debut album Fearless released this month has been described by People magazine as "the African-American answer to Amy Winehouse's Back to Black". Swide takes a listen and finds out who Missy Elliot's new protege on the block really is.

Nominated at the sickeningly young age of 21 for a Grammy for best urban/alternative performance, Jazmine Sullivan is a young soul singer from Philadelphia. Jill Scott has already described Jazmine as being "truly a child prodigy. You don't hear voices like that at that age."

Her debut album Fearless which was released in the states in September was the recipient of five Grammy nominations and with executive producers that include Missy Elliott and Salaam Remi - is there nothing this girl can't do. Should Beyoncè be shaking in her Gareth Pugh boots we wonder?

Her new album Fearless, features everyone from Jill Scott to Stevie Wonder (it's rumoured she's already sang at one of Stevie Wonder's children's birthday celebrations) is a medley of sophistcated soul.

The single Dream Big and the album Fearless is out now with Columbia records. Take a peek at her lifestory below.
