Francis & The Lights: Charisma guaranteed

Posted Aug 6, 2009

Where have we been in our playlist bubble? The minute we saw this video courtesy of Daniel Merriweather (a music star who's not afraid to share) we were hooked.

A cross between Prince, the Scissor Sisters and wrapped in the brooding sexual intensity of Sean Penn (if you can imagine him singing of course) - we're hooked, line and sinker for  Francis and the Lights.

The video, 'The Top', shot on 35mm and although released last year is a slow burn, gathering major internet steam now and fast developing into a cult classic. The video, directed by Jake Schreier is chic, elegant and WILL get you tapping your loafers.

As lead singer Francis Starlight announced his "summer resolution" is to practice the piano an hour a day. In a David Lynch-esque twist (akin to his twitter weather reports) he's releasing a daily video of him doing just that. Good boy.

Despite Francis already looking the genuine star that he is - the road to fame and riches does of course take some time. Before the Gap ad campaigns and the Coca Cola endorsements arrive Francis is keeping a record of every dollar he spends and earns. The tweets are worth a look for any wannabe Jim Morrison twitter.com/fstarlite.

Hailing from Brooklyn, the band is currently setting New York alight with their live performances. Until they add more tour dates, be a virtual groupie here twitter.com/andthelights.
