Dance to beat the blues

Posted Nov 25, 2008

It's time to leave minimal hotel lobby bars behind as we find a vinyl archaelogist who has inspired us to find our dancing feet again

Open every night until 4am, The Santos Party House's motto is simple - it's a place for for dancing and drinking. After sipping on ginger martini's and listening to lounge music for what seems like years - now is the time for change!

The Santos Party House is a two-level, 8000 sq. foot music venue, centrally located in downtown New York City, straddling Chinatown and Tribeca. Blurring the lines between music and art culture, the venue is designed to function as a concert hall, dance club, and lounge.

Every Thursday at Santos is DJ Franc O's Voodoo Funk . The founder of Berlin's Soul Explosion, Franc O is back in the US after a three year record hunting odyssey in West Africa. His contagious blend of afro beat, raw afro funk, Nigerian disco and blistering voodoo rhythm is for dancers only.

The inspiring blog of his three year long stay in West Africa, and the goal to find as many vintage African records as possible is online at www.voodoofunk.com/ . Watch out for a series of links that lead to cool mixes of 1970's African pop music.
