Scartlett Johansson- a vintage muse.
Fashion has been looking into the archives and much inspiration has been found from vintage styles. From 40s to 80s with nods to the 70s the collections of recent seasons have definite historical qualities.
Post-war clinched waists, midi length skirts, tailoring and tweeds have all resurfaced in contrast to the oversized shoulders, leggings and bright colours of the hedonistic 80s. Beauty too has been looking back- ruby red lips, tight curled hair styles and black lined eyes complete the distinctly vintage feel of the second decade of the 21st century.
In comes Scarlett Johansson. She was catapulted into the Olympus of Hollywood beauties at just 18 in 2003 thanks to her breakthrough roles in Lost in Translation and Girl with a Pearl Earring. Since then she has graced many a magazine cover and ranked highly in “sexiest women” lists.
Her smile, bright eyes and husky voice have spellbound many audiences and directors alike.
Iconic director Woody Allen has cast Scarlett multiple times and in an interview to MTV has described her as “Very charming, very bright, very amusing. She livens the set up. The minute she walks on the set, the amperage goes up 200 points. She's a great kid and very talented. […] Whenever there's a part she could play, she would probably always be my first choice.“
Scarlett boasts fans from the fashion world too. She’s been tapped as the face of L’Oreal, Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton and most recently she’s been chosen as the face of Dolce&Gabbana make-up.
Scarlett’s magnetism and beauty make her a timeless muse. Fashion designers recent foray into the archives has perhaps furthered Scarlett’s popularity, yet her assets lend her a chameleon quality that allows her to fit in both sleek contemporary or vintage inspired sets. One thing is certain- whether fashion continues to value vintage proportions or modern architectural shapes Scarlett’s beauty transcends any trend.
