Giovanna Battaglia, the Italian style icon, knows clothes. Revered as one of the trend setters from the Italian peninsula, Giovanna is always elegant, never crass, whether she’s wearing a razor sharp masculine look or something straight off the couture runway.

Giovanna tweeted a picture with her wearing a dress worthy of a princess which she wore at the AmfAR Gala, a charity event organised in aid of AIDS research. This ball is a yearly event which kicks off New York fashion week. Being closely linked to the fashion world, this ball proves also to be a red carpet event not to be missed. This year it was hosted by Sarah Jessica Parker, and amongst the designers, and stars present were Cindy Crawford, Elizabeth Hurley, Linda Evangelista and Leighton Meester, to name but a few.

To those of you who know fashion and know Dolce&Gabbana, Giovanna’s dress does not look unfamiliar. Its one of the looks form the demi couture collection, right? The 18th century inspired neckline, the empire line waist, the layers of soft tulle and lace, and the laser cut flower applications. But to the trained eye, this dress is not exactly the same as the one I just described. But what are the differences? Watch this space to find out.
