Felicity Jones: True vintage beauty captured by youth
2011 kicked off in style for the young actress, winning an award during the proceedings of the Sundance Film Festival for her performance as Anna in Like Crazy, and has continued in this manner. The English rose is catching the attention of both directors and audiences. But who is she?
Felicity Jones, born January 19th 1984, is from Bournville near Birmingham, England, and is best known to the young television audiences of the late 1990s as the school bully, who roamed the corridors and potion rooms, in ‘The Worst Witch’. The next ten years saw her starring in numerous TV movies and series as varying characters, allowing her to push herself out of the realm of children’s TV. It wasn’t until 2008, when she landed a role in iconic TV hit Doctor Who, and 2009, the role of Margot Frank in The Diary of Anne Frank (a TV mini-series), that she started to gain more attention. Whether it was her performances that were flooring the viewers or the understated vintage look that she brings to our screens, she was definitely doing something right.
Her first major screenplay was in 2010, when she co-starred alongside British comedy genius, Ricky Gervais, in 1970s-set comedy ‘Cemetery Junction’. Her grey-green eyes sparkle with the sexiness of the 70s, which was so eye-catching that she ended up starring in 1970s-set ‘Soulboy’. Might I just add, that by 2009 she had been starring on popular BBC Radio 4’s soap opera, The Archers, for 10 years, which had given her appeal that extra boost to different audiences. Oh… and then there have been the stage performances that she can pop on her CV. I told you this girl pack some punch with her credentials, didn’t I?
So what now? Well, as I said, 2011 has started off in style, literally, for she was snapped up by Burberry for a campaign and was photographed for a cover and feature spread in March 2011’s Tatler. Shot with English gentleman/hottie Ed Westwick, she was trussed up in Dolce&Gabbana, maintaining that retro flair that we have come to love over the years. As mentioned, her role in Drake Doremus’ ‘Like Crazy’, which is an improv-based feature length about intense love, bagged Felicity Jones the Sundance Best-Actress award and her profile has increased ever since. The film proved so popular that it earned itself international release this October and Felicity has found herself conducting more interviews than you can shake a stick at. She is now working on a new piece by the same director, which will star Guy Pearce… not bad eh?

And that, in short, is who this slow burning, audience enthralling, vintage styled beauty, who is lighting up the silver screens around the world is. Keep your eyes on Felicity Jones. Good things are going to happen.
