Bruno Mars may be named after the Red Planet but we know he’s a star. Since the ‘Big Bang’ explosion of his talent on the world stage with his debut album ‘Doo-Wops and Hooligans’, Mars’ star has continue to burn brightest in the sky. He picked up recognition at the Brits with his second award in two years, this time for International Male Solo Artist.

Our favourite Martian was in attendance at the Brit Award Ceremony in London and boot in a Super Nova-like performance of his hit single ‘Just The Way You Are’, his breakthrough song. The Hawaiian-born coroner and his Hooligans rocked the Arena and when leaving the stage he dropped more than a hint that he’s about to send us into orbit soon this year with his much anticipated second album. His Dolce&Gabbana Tuxedo of course, cut the perfect award ceremony look.

There’ll be no ‘difficult second album’ effect on Mr. Mars we can assure you the guy just oozes talent. Besides he’s been around the block a few times penning songs for Alexandra Burke, Travie Mc Coy, Adam Levine, Brandy, Sean Kingston and Flo Rida. He cut his teeth as a producer years ago and has been nominated for Grammys as solo Male artist and producer.

British man of the moment Ed Sheeran scooped the prize for British Male Solo Artist and no surprises as all-conquering Adele took the gong for British female. Rihanna claimed International Solo Female artist while Coldplay took the British Group honours.

While planet Mars is sitting high in the night sky the artist has gained his popularity by exhibiting a mercurial musical style. Mars’ songs contain a whole constellation of influences from R&B, to Hip Hop, soul, pop, folk and reggae. He takes all of these and manages to synthesises them into something new that is perfectly pop, with global appeal, instant-access catchy melodies and soulful hooks. You simply cannot learn how to do this, you simply are this. Bruno Mars is the sum of his influences and much more.

And it also seems that Bruno Mars was under the influence of the Brits later on that night/early morning. The pop star kept us updated with his activity throughout the event and into the early hours… apparently, he liked his Dolce&Gabbana Tux so much, he slept in it. I mean, we know that Dolce&Gabbana are known for making comfortably fitting garments, but Bruno Mars certainly took it to a new level… Tux bed wear? He might be on to something.  

 

With a mixed background, a Puerto Rican father and Filipina mother Mars was raised in the US’s most exotic and remote state Hawaii. Born into a musical family, Bruno claims tat there was never any question on earth that he would do anything other than music. The reggae influence in his music comes from the Island state’s obsession with the Caribbean sound. 

Mars is on a perpetually upward trajectory and his next album will only add to this. He remains one of a very rare commodity in today’s sphere of music; a genuinely rare talent, pop sensibility, an enviable knack for melody, industry kudos and an ability to keep you guessing about what’s coming next.
