The mulit-million selling artist, Bruno Mars, descends on Milan Monday 10th October at Mediolanum Forum and Dolce&Gabbana and Swide wanted to remind you that you that it is going to be a night to remember. But who is Bruno Mars?

Before we find out more about Bruno Mars, Swide has some information to share with you and I suggest you pay close attention.

If you are one of the many who got their copy Bruno’s LP Doo-Wops & Hooligans, then I’m sure that you have already snapped up tickets to see him play at on Monday 10^th October at Mediolanum Forum, Milan. For those who can’t make it to the concert, why don’t you come down to Gold, Via Poerio 3, 10:30pm onwards, where the official after party will be happening and you might get the chance to see the star when he arrives.

As I was saying, who is Bruno Mars?

Born Peter Gene Herhandez in 1985, Bruno grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he was raised by his parents, who met whilst they were on tour and his mother was a hula dancer and his father a percussionist. Although Peter is his birth name, Bruno became his nickname at the age of two, given to him by his father who thought that he had a resemblance to professional wrestle Bruno Sammartino.

His first taste of fame came from the local crowds on the island, who were won over by the Elvis impersonation that four-year-old Bruno performed with his family’s band, The Love Notes. The music didn’t stop there. Fuelled by the music that flowed within the family’s veins he continued to pursue a career in music and, in 2004, took a huge leap and moved to Los Angeles.

After a deal with Mowtown Records that didn’t seem to push the young star in a specific direction but did give him the break he was waiting for. Also signed to the label was songwriter and producer Philip Lawrence with who Bruno, together with Ari Levine, began writing songs together and formed a production team under the name ‘The Smeezingtons’.

Fast forward a few years; an introduction to Atlantic records, his personal development as a writer and producer for other acts (Sean Kingston, Flo Rida, Brandy and then some), he finally began to add his vocal talents to the people he was working with. His first was with Far East Movement on track “3D”, but it wasn’t until his featured with B.o.B on single “Nothin’ On You” and Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire” that the world took notice and BAM…

The star of Peter Gene Herhandez was born. In May 2010 his EP, “It’s Better if You Don’t Understand”, got people listening and then when he dropped “Just the Way You Are”… that was it. Screaming fans? Check. Millions of Youtube hits? Check and an endless supply of hats? Check.

His musical influences and styles are eclectic and weave elements of pop, rock, reggae, R&B, soul, hip hop and, as he proudly states, a nod towards his Hawaiian heritage. A tinge of nostalgia is also apparent in his soul-flecked vocals that carve some of the most sing-a-long choruses out there at the moment. What makes his choice of lyrics so appealing is the simplicity in how he says exactly what he wants to say. If he thinks a girl is beautiful, he tells her how it is. Nice.
