My priest, the A-lister
THE HANDSOME ONE
Montgomery Clift in Alfred Hitchcock's I Confess:

Catholic priest turned murder suspect - that would be after he received a confession from the murderer himself. It gets somewhat more interesting when word comes out our priest was having an affair. Hardly the best of Hitchcocks but the combination of Montgomery Clift's good looks and the idea of an adulterous priest... Worth a few yawns.
THE SURPRISINGLY CHASTE ONE
Jean-Paul Belmondo in Léon Morin, prêtre:

Handsome young priest meets sexually frustrated widow... The result isn't as sleazy or French as one may have expected.
THE UNLIKELY ONE
Ewan McGregor in Angels and Demons:

Those who bothered watching it reckon he was the strongest thing about a weak film but for his versatility only (heroin addict, temping Pope...) Ewan deserved a spot in our Priest Hall of Fame.
THE CLASSIC COMEDY ONE
Fernandel in the Don Camillo series:

Catholic priest meets communist mayor in post-War Italy. One of the best examples of onscreen chemistry to date!
THE POLITICAL ONE
Mathieu Kassovitz in Amen by Costa-Gavras:

World War II: SS member feels bad about concentration camps and tries to alert the Pope about what's going on. The Vatican can't really be bothered and there's only this politically-conscious young priest left to save the day.
THE FASHIONABLE ONES
Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce in Nine:

For all its A-list actresses new release Nine only really attracted attention from the fashion crowd when it came out that two very well-known designers were doing a cameo. As film buffs the guys were obviously delighted. Want to read more about their dream roles? This way.
THE RANDOM ONES
Father Crilly et al from Father Ted:

Technically not film stars but with an array of truly random comedy moments (from the Eurovision Song contest to the teaching actual sentences to a severe alcoholic) our Irishmen deserve a special mention.
