New Almodovar film: Broken Embraces

Posted Apr 18, 2009

Swide caught up with actor Rubén Ochandiano - star of forthcoming Almodovar film Broken Embraces featuring Penelope Cruz, backstage at the Dolce & Gabbana catwalk show. Watch our exclusive video here.

The new Almodovar film will feature the now Oscar winning Penelope Cruz playing a would-be actress from Spain’s provinces who is pursued by an unscrupulous financier.

Released last month in it's native Spain, the film is a four-way tale of "amour-fou" - mad, passionate love and obsessive love that mixes references to works such as Nicholas Ray's "In a Lonely Place" and Vincente Minnelli's "The Bad and the Beautiful".

The usual sultry looking Penelope has traded in her brunette locks for a blonde wig in the new film that is shot in the 1950s American film noir style and features the signature Almodóvar themes including fate, the mystery of creation, guilt, and unscrupulous power.

The press are saying it could be a breakthrough this year for Spanish actor Ruben Ochandiano who plays alongside Miss Cruz. After meeting him - Swide couldn't agree more.
