Leonardo DiCaprio set to become a viking

Posted Dec 14, 2009

Leonardo DiCaprio has signed on to star in Mel Gibson's latest directorial epic in which he will be playing a viking. Also on board is William Monahan, who penned Leo's flick The Departed.

Shooting is expected to begin in fall 2010 for the Viking epic. Surprisingly  - DiCaprio is reported to have been long fascinated by Viking culture and is now set to play one in a storyline that is rumoured to be on a production par with Mel Gibson’s other period efforts such as, "Braveheart," "The Passion of the Christ" and "Apocalypto."

The Viking film will be DiCaprio’s first picture with Gibson. "This will be an awe-inspiring story, created with some of the industry’s finest cinematic talent, and I am just over the moon to be making this film with Mel, Leo and Bill," Graham King (the film's producer) said in a statement after the principals confirmed the project to Daily Variety.

DiCaprio will next be seen in the Martin Scorsese-directed "Shutter Island," which Paramount releases on Feb.19th. Gibson just completed the Jodie Foster-directed "The Beaver."

Leo Dicaprio stars in the forthcoming coming Martin Scorsese film - Shutter Island. The story features around two U.S. Marshalls sent to a federal institution for the criminally insane located in Boston's Outer Harbor to capture a violent female escapee.
