Is Baaria's star working on her acceptance speech?

After a triumphant debut last September in Venice, is there more in store for Baaria? Tornatore's latest Sicilian epic comedy has just made it on the nominees shortlist for the next Golden Globes (ti be held on January 17th) and as Italia's official pick for the Best Foreign Film Oscars.
The film depicts life in rural Sicily through the decades, starting from the 1920s, the backdrop to Margaret Madè's and Francesco Scianna's burgeoning love story, all the way into the present. Beyond the specifics of the characters' lives Baaria gives a strong sense of Sicilianity and tradition. A juxtaposition of highly atmospheric scenes really does makes the mind travel into the land of traditions past... What with Dolce & Gabbana's tribute to their Mediterranean roots and the success of Baaria... has Sicily become the ultimate 2010 trend?
For those still waiting for a chance to see the film here's a selection of essential images:

Everyday life involved a healthy dose of olive-picking...

... as well as the odd carrying of plastic legs.

Is there anything Margaret Madè cannot do? A devoted Catholic...

... an attentive nurse...

... good with children...

... skilled in the kitchen...

... and obviously not too bad in bed either!

Director Giuseppe Tornatore showing his best moves...
Margaret Madè was a red-carpet sensation in Venice and so we'd advise she started working on her look for the Golden Globes stage; and so should anything happen to that speech... don't they say a pretty dress is worth a thousand words?
